Week 32 (1/1-1/7)

This week has been a whirlwind.

Baby: is huge. The midwife says he is upside down (butt up) and measuring right at 32 so we are on schedule for late Feb/early March delivery date. At this point I think most of the developmental stuff is done, we are just at the growing/fattening up stage. Having said that, I am certainly doing my part providing the nutrients. So this belly pic I took in my undies, granted they were full-coverage granny panties but I figured I would save my grandmother the heart attack and another removal from her will and just censor it.

I am giant. I gained another 5 lbs since my last visit but considering there were two holidays in there, the midwife didn't give me too much grief. Hov has been eating more than usual too, we both need to get it in check. I am swollen. Like super swollen. Sausage finger swollen. I had to take my wedding rings off and that took about  a pound of lotion and roughly ten minutes. My finger was purple and I was SURE we would have to amputate or cut the ring off. Not a pretty sight. It's more than 24 hours later and you can still see the lines on my finger of where the ring was cutting off circulation. The pic on the left is immediately after I removed the rings and the one on the right is like four hours later and you can see the line on the ring finger hasn't faded one bit. Another fun thing is since I'm so big, I regularly have a little sliver of belly hanging out under my shirts, even with my longer tanks on underneath my tops it still shows. I never notice until I feel down there and notice a patch of skin just chilling out in the open.

More fun news, my breasts have also started leaking. Well technically only one of them does and only sometimes and only a little bit but enough that I noticed and immediately brought it to Hov's attention. It's interesting all the things that happen to your body that no one ever talks about. I feel like this is the worst kind of secret society. It's the "hahaha good luck figuring it out on your own suckaaaa" kind of society. I mean the What to Expect book was good but still didn't include every weird thing that happens. I have noticed that if you google specific things you'll find threads of plenty of people experiencing it but it would be nice to know about it ahead of time instead of having to search if you are a weirdo or not.

It's been pretty cold here lately. We got back from visiting Miami and Hov got sick and I was taking care of him, then he got better and of course I got sick. This one is not nearly as bad as the previous plague I had. This is more along the lines of annoying congestion coupled with a mini sore throat in the mornings. The congestion is mainly at night and usually tamed by a nice Vapor Rub treatment. I'm not too concerned about it, I'm optimistic it'll pass soon.

I talked to my family and we have a schedule set up for once the baby comes. First week Hov will stay home, second week my dad and his wife come for about 4 days, then my grandparents come for a week and then I'm on my own until the 6 weeks are up. Once I have to go back to work my dad and his wife come back and stay for up to three and a half months. My dad's job is being super flexible and between his leave and telecommuting, he is able to stay here. It's such a relief to know that the baby will be at home with family instead of being taken to daycare so soon. I expect to graduate at the end of the Summer so hopefully my dad's time here will run right until I graduate and then I can stay at home until I get a real job and then we can figure out the child care situation then. We would of course prefer if I could stay at home the first year but that is very unlikely with the budget we currently have. At least the baby will be about 5-6 months before it has to go to daycare so that makes me feel soooo much better than 6 weeks.

Hov and I also started walking this past weekend. We went both days, 3 miles. Slower than we would normally go but moving around with this big belly is hard. I want to get back on track this week, it's time. I can't keep eating like an animal and expect to not blow up. Plus, I don't want to make things any harder than they already will be getting the weight off once the baby comes. The less I put on, the less there is to take off. I can't be trusted with food but if I can get the exercise going again at least I can try to cancel some of it out.

Hov and I also FINALLY agreed to a girl's name. I don't think we'll reveal it, it took so long to get to one we both were OK with. I don't really want any opinions about it to be honest. I think we are pretty set on a boy's name too. It makes me feel a lot better that it's settled. At the same time, who knows- maybe D-day comes and we look at the baby and pick something totally different.

Both closets are also officially done, I took mini videos of the nursery so far and also the guest room. I'm so excited. I'm really happy with how they turned out. I'm thinking the nursery closet needs some more shelves but I haven't decided yet. Red paint in closet=guest room, blue paint in closet= nursery. So this first picture on the left is a front view of the empty closet that we took when the doors were still down so you could get a good view of the shelving arrangement in the middle. At first, I thought the shelves were too long (they are 48 inches long) but then we started thinking about it and the sliding doors cover half the closet at all times so only 2 feet will be showing at any time so then we decided it wouldn't look too weird. The picture on the right is also the empty door-less closet showing the floor to ceiling shelves we made on the right side of the closet. We figured this closet would be mainly overflow storage for us (winter clothes) and also room for guests to put things if they came for longer visits so we really wanted to focus on shelves that could accommodate bulky things or those foldable storage bins. On the left side of the closet is just a rod for long things like formal dresses I never use and some of Hov's suits.
So once the doors were put back on and we filled the closet back up with the things we had in the room there wasn't as much storage space for guests as we had anticipated but there is some. So the whole bottom shelf in the middle is for guests as well as the shoe hanging organizer on the left side of the closet. The right side has half of that bar for guests as well as 2.5 shelves on the right side. I'm sure we'll have to make more room once my dad and his wife come for an extended period of time, that or we'll need a small dresser. There is plenty of space in the nursery closet (for now) so if we needed to re-locate some of this stuff I'm sure we could.
