Supposedly you don't need another ultrasound until the 18th-20th week when they measure the baby and look at the development of all the organs. We actually got more pictures but not necessarily the way we wanted to. It started with a mini appointment before I left on a medical mission trip to Guyana for 7 days, that was a quick look just to check on the heart beat, no pictures, no fancy TV ultrasound. It was on the old school wheel-around ultrasound machine to make sure everything was good before I left.
When I got back it was right before the normal 12 week mark and I ended up going in a day early because the baby gave us a heart attack when I started bleeding. Turns out, some people develop a very sensitive cervix during pregnancy and I guess I am one of those people. In order to find that out they did an impromptu ultrasound just to make sure there was no sign of bleeding inside the uterus or anywhere like that. Thank goodness baby was fine and we actually got to see him/her bouncing all around which was nice.
The baby actually looks like a baby now and not a sea creature. I can't wait for the next one where we'll be able to see even more. Now that I am starting to see a little more of baby (and a little more of me) we get to start the weekly pictures! We went to Michael's and got all our supplies. Stay tuned for weekly updates!!
